Longboat Key Triathlon Race Series
76F / 24C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 12m 44s
Overall Rank = 49/150
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 6/11
Pre-race routine:

Praise God up early & counting me blessings! stretch/medit/pray to do my best; eggs n PBJ with Green Tea (yum). Rookie troubles with putting air in my Mavic elites but a nice chap "Don" helped me out (tks!). Rookie mistake leads to getting new id # (sorry). times flying away as we wait our turn for the porta-potties (6 or 8?). Rushed at end (my bad)of setting up transition (somewhat). "the kid is learning".
Event warmup:

coulda/woulda/shoulda? will have to play/tweak this one; hoped too little in water only was enough but not by my swim time result (darn it).
"TIME waits for NO one..." (cuz its in GOD's hands, no haste - no waste)
Swim
  • 09m 52s
  • 402 meters
  • 02m 27s / 100 meters
Comments:

1st key: Breathing. hard to relax when u are competing in open water, "school" like; dealing with adrenaline, location-vision,
looking to "draft" someone/someway/somehow....(have to read up on
this topic methinks, for, is drafting even possible in water?)
2nd key: muscle relaxation - technique. Easy in pool but not here.
3rd key: Mental focus (see pool comment)etc.
What would you do differently?:

Influx-inflate air into my bowels half hr b4 swim (look out for MY draft!)
Seriously, technique and relaxation are key here, as stories abound of folks fighting the water in tri's. i kinda hope the swim was longer than reported but i saw respectable/consistent times here, so "eeennnnh" to that excuse.
Transition 1
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

My second tri (1st was 8 mos ago) so...T1 improved, happy for now. Will improve with experience/better planning. Wood rack was good enough for T1 but T2 is another story...
What would you do differently?:

MY set up needs improvement to shave below one minute time (very poss here at LBK club venue). maybe some more "urgency" here nec.
Bike
  • 35m 42s
  • 19.31 kms
  • 32.45 km/hr
Comments:

not as crowded as i thought it'd be. riders were kind/curteous/attentive, i made good time on aero bike but still have some improving to do. any power meter cycling coaches/clubs in Sarasota area (not looking to get rich quick, i might add...ahem)?
What would you do differently?:

MORE drinks on bike (1 not enuff).
aforementiioned cycling club training idea; Save and dream for a custom made Guru (if FATHER approves/allows/agrees o : ) with Di2, nitro infused Zipps, few bells and whistles, etc. Hey, dreaming is allowed...or..."it could happen, it could happen...." (can i get a witness?)
Transition 2
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

T2 blown. 1st, bike wouldnt get in easy nor stand; then, my brain went "uuuhhhh/arrrrrghhhh" i sat to put on sneaks. i lost 45" to a min
(methinks) at least. yuk. someday (soon? next yr, Lord willing?) i'll do T2 under 1 min like some folk do. nuttin beats "experience" like "experiences."
What would you do differently?:

plan practice T1 T2 more often. 'nuff said.
Run
  • 23m 21s
  • 4.83 kms
  • 04m 50s  min/km
Comments:

A-vista only shows group ranks, not each leg ovrall ranks (that i can see).
was very pleased with run result tho' with speed work i do believe
WE can improve. Skipping the beach "idea" for part of the run is
def something organizers need to consider/remember as that would
kill most folks quads/hams/calfs/feet methinks. i hope they keep this
event course the same, yr in yr out, as is hard to improve.
What would you do differently?:

R Hammy was sending "warning signals" (tight) so...can be looser faster with some F-leks, or overall pace push in the future. improved training technques and staying injury free is key here. Can do/will do better but very thankful to my FATHER for today.
Post race
Warm down:

chatting with my wife Dawn; Need to become a "stretcher" in the future.
food was looking mighty good, if only i didnt do a triathlon.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

training volume, intensities, flexibility, etc. Yet, every day's a new day so.....be thankful you can run, whether u have one, two, good working legs/lungs etc!!! (be the best u can be for the day)

Event comments:

I look fwd to doing this event/locale/venue again next yr. i may watch Octobers olympic/int'l distance race, dream &/or get inspired to "go longer" (but first must go harder/faster/smarter in sprints) IF u like smaller, quainter races, then LBK club tri is for u. Good peeps here who, like all of us can improve in some areas, but overall do one heckava job
trying to please many individuals. God's blessings to all who "tri4Him",
be they workers or participants. o : )

Overall: 0/150
Performance: Below average
had a garmin and Murphy's law struck...somehow hit lap twice methinks around T1; oh well, one less concern (darn..lol). HR 150's i think tho' the dang 310xt was "dinging" in the water (HR too high?) One day Triathletes will have chips that do everything for them, data-wise. May folks like me live to see that day?
Suit: CEP skin suit
Course: Mon', 400m looked "huge" on the parallel! heard rumors that 2nd buoy was moving away somewhat (after event), but aint basing "my excuses" (or fishermans tales) on any rumors. Just have to improve swim if ever going to do 800-1500m legs in future. Now maybe if i use helium or .... ; ) (strange, i used to win swim medals/trophies as a kid!?)

couldn't see kph; was hoping for 32.2 avg (i'll do the math later). HR 150's. Good effort as the "pro's"/"young-ins" were the few passing me (from duoathlon?). Tk ABBA for an aero bike! what a difference it makes! Giant "trinity" (2006) sums it up for me.

very good time for me coming off bike! I prayed for 25' run (or better) & believed in faith ABBA/Yeshua/Ruach Ha Kodesh (Echad) would deliver (and boy o' boy did HE/They!) HR 150's/160's.
