Comments:

Not a timed race, however I had wanted to push to finish in under 4 hrs. Riding partner was on a hybrid so had to pace slow to avoid dropping him. I felt great up the hills and control was great in the downs. At times when I could drop my partner with another group I paced quite fast maintaining uphill speed. Legs felt good throughout but experienced some cramping during some of the later uphill pushes. Drank gallons of fluid which kept me rolling despite a savage headache at times. The folks that ran the event did a great job. Rest stops started to run out of water so the SAGs doubled the effort to bring in more. Lots of folks dropped out from what I heard due to the wind and heat. Many thanks to all of the volunteers that staffed the rest stops, drove the SAGs, mechanics, medics and route marshals. This event could not have succeeded without them. I cannot express fully how friendly and accommodating these folks were. I thank them also for being cheerleaders with words of encouragement and "Go Red Rider!" cheers as I rode.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Bike rode great, I felt great. I believe I prepared and trained to make the distance. I hate to say but I would have liked to have paced faster but held back b/c of partner pace so probably would not do that distance riding a roadie paired with a hybrid. Still, I am proud of my riding partner (my brother) giving it his all and finishing the event.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched, ate 1/2 a hot dog and 64 oz of water and 64 oz of Gatorade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Riding partner

Event comments:

Got in to the finish near the course close time so almost all of the vendors and entertainment were gone or packing up. Great volunteers as was previously mentioned and great rider support. One thing I did notice: as this was a Diabetes event, I only saw 1 rest station with a SHARPS container available. I checked my BGL at every stop.

Performance: Good
Wind: Strong with gusts
Course: Some tough hills. Country roads with a mix of smooth surface and rough patches. Tar lines soft from the heat so they tended to suck in the wheels. Course had very little shade and as such nearly no wind breaks. Wind was 18-20 mph from the south-southwest. Rode the distance with either a strong head wind or cross wind. Route was well marked and had several relatively equipped rest stops. SAG vehicles patrolled entire route but I did not see the first one until almost the half way point. There were 3 courses associated with this ride -25, 50 and 100k so there was a lot of ground to cover. Had HAM radio vehicles out as well.
