Swim
Comments: My swim felt really good. I'm a slow swimmer, and this is my worst of the three disciplines, but I've been working hard in the pool. My goal was 6:30; so, I'm happy with my time. Felt smooth and under control the entire 10 laps. What would you do differently?: Concentrate more on form and pull from the beginning. Transition 1
Comments: Felt a little slow. Hard time getting into my shoes. I was careful running in my bike cleats on the asphalt; so, I wasn't as fast as I could have been. Clipped in right foot first, as usual, but I had a problem with my left. What would you do differently?: Quicker into shoes. Start off in correct gear on bike. Need to practice T1. Bike
Comments: Fairly strong 10-12 mph headwind going out which, of course, was great coming back in. My goal was 47:00; so, I'm happy with my time here, too. Passed maybe 20 cyclists. Was only passed by one female relay cyclist at about mile 13. Dang it! :) What would you do differently?: Make sure my pre-race and on-bike nutrition is right so I'm less hesitant to push harder. I didn't train on my bike for two weeks prior to the race; so, I can do better. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty smooth T2 Run
Comments: Passed 15-20 runners. Was not passed. Very strong but could have pushed more, especially at the end. Goal was 22:00; so, I'm not as pleased with this segment. What would you do differently?: Again, make sure my nutrition was better so that I could have left a little more out there. Post race
Warm down: Walk-down for a few minutes. Quickly ate an orange wedge and banana section. The Chik-Fil-A sandwich was hot and tasty. I rewarded myself with a cold Mt. Dew. What limited your ability to perform faster: Pre-race nutrition Event comments: Enjoyed myself immensely. Was under my goal time of 1:20. I can do it in 1:15 and will be back next year, Lord willing! Up at 4:00 AM. Ate a small sausage biscuit and a yogurt before leaving home. Met my buddy and we made the 1.5-hour trek north on I-95. Arrived at 6:15 AM in plenty of time for packet and chip pickup and body marking. I organized my transition area but absent-mindedly forgot to eat my protein bar and banana. Was a little worried about nutrition but figured I could push through.
