Pre-race routine:

ate breakfast, got to race 1.5 hours early, set up
Event warmup:

jogged a short distance, swam ~100m
Swim
  • 04m 39s
  • 273 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

pretty good for my first pool swim, collided with one person going the opposite direction. still managed to pass some people in the tight lanes.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

no transition splits were provided...interesting...guessing this got added into my bike split.

was interesting having an uphill run to the bike start, ~50-75m
What would you do differently?:

nothing, without knowing how long it took i can't really say.
Bike
  • 47m 25s
  • 16.5 miles
  • 20.88 mile/hr
Comments:

I liked the course, some long climbs followed by long descents, nothing very steep at all. there were a lot of turns though.

T1 got added to the bike split
What would you do differently?:

maybe push a little harder, around mile 12 i noticed i was barely breathing and just cruising along. could have made up some time here.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

no transition data... guessing it got lumped into the run split.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, went pretty well overall i think. carried my belt out with me onto the run course instead of messing with it in transition.
Run
  • 23m 37s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

felt a little sluggish to start, but my pace was still where i wanted it
What would you do differently?:

maybe pick up the cadence on the bike when approaching transition during the last mile to loosen up my legs more.
Post race
Warm down:

wandered around drinking gatorade/water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the only thing that may have hindered me is not knowing there was a big steep hill on the run, in the future i should check out the run and bike courses

Event comments:

Got first in my AG so i can't complain too much. i didn't like the pool start with each person starting single file; there were people starting the bike after the 250m swim as i was finishing it. i guess thats just a pool vs OWS preference i have now after trying both.

i wish there were separate splits for the transitions, i would like to see if i improved at all in this area from my last race. knocked off a point on my race rating for this.
