Pre-race routine:

2 tbsp almond butter and 2 tbsp jelly + handful of peanuts. Didn't wana a full stomach.
Event warmup:

A few jogging laps around the parking lot
Swim
  • 06m 51s
  • 400 meters
  • 01m 43s / 100 meters
Comments:

Had to pass a few people on the turns which took me too far away from where I had to go under the lane line. This took a little bit of time off my swim.
What would you do differently?:

Not much I could do. I think I did rather well considering it was a pool swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

Still had problems getting my feet into the slip on straps. Next time I'll have bike shoes.
Bike

Comments:

I think I did much better at hills this time around. I stood up and powered up the hills which I have found to be much easier for me than being seated and popping into an easier gear. The coru
What would you do differently?:

I felt pretty good about this ride, the parts I hate most are drinking water and eating gel. I have trouble concentrating on biking while I'm fiddling around with getting the water bottle or wrestling the gel out of my race belt. Still glad I ate the gel though, I felt really good by the end of the bike for the beginning of the run.
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

Since I didn't get as much water as I would have liked on the bike, I took an extra second or 2 to take a swig. Still no bike shoes so no need to switch shoes at all.
Run
  • 23m 20s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

Again, I felt good. MUCH better than my last tri. I felt like I kept a pretty decent pace throughout.
What would you do differently?:

Pick up the pace closer to the end. Sprint harder when I see the finish line.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around drinking water.

Event comments:

Had a great race and a great time! Time to start training again for Dam Tri at the end of September.
They didn't change my group even though I had signed up for my age group. They still entered me as a Clyde. Because of this, I got 2nd place out of the Clydes. I don't feel too badly about it since after the huge dinner I had last night, I did go to bed weighing exactly 200lbs. I'll have to contact someone for my next race though. I should be sub 190 by my next race and really shouldn't be racing Clyde.

Course: All roads in a big loop. Rolling hills but nothing horribly strenuous. Some of the turns they had marked were really small and didn't allow for an easy turn. It was either slow down or go out of the boundary, so unfortunately there were a few times I needed to break.

Course: I don't think that was a real 5k. My GPS showed 2.9-ish miles, so that's why the time looks so good :) 2 laps mostly on pavement. There was one part where you ran up a hill in a wooded area. Kinda neat that there was a little bit of a trail run in there.
