Total Time = 1h 12m 29s
Overall Rank = 26/251
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 3/19
Pre-race routine:

Arrived early, got setup with plenty of time to spare. Walked around calmly, tried to relax, stretched a little. Drank 16 oz water and ate a gel 20 minutes before start.
Swim
  • 14m 27s
  • 656 yards
  • 02m 12s / 100 yards
Comments:

This "swim" time includes a 100 yards up hill jog to T1, but I was a minute and a half behind the top guys in my age group, so I was a little disappointed.
What would you do differently?:

It's time for swim lessons. I started 2 back from the front and was in the scrum for the first 100 yds - next time, toe the line, start on the front. I noticed the sound of the water splashing around my ears, and was distracted from getting into a steady swim rhythm. Perhaps ear plugs would help.
Transition 1
  • 00m 20s
Comments:

Nailed it. One of the top 3 fastest of the day.
Bike
  • 34m 31s
  • 11.8 miles
  • 20.51 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt like I was putting out a solid effort at the time. But looking at my heart rate data, I know I can go harder. Drank most of a bottle of Gatorade and ate a gel.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know. Pedal harder. Need to be more focused mentally to maintain strong steady effort physically.
Transition 2
  • 00m 34s
Comments:

Fumbled putting on shoes. The 11.8 mile bike was so short, my feet were still wet from the swim. Still, a top 10 T2 split.
What would you do differently?:

Need shoes with a pull tab on the tongue.
Run
  • 22m 36s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm pleased with my time, considering the course. 2nd fastest run in age group, and faster than the two guys who finished ahead of me, but I didn't catch them.
What would you do differently?:

I got a heel blister. It didn't hamper my race, just pain afterward. Need more lube in running shoes next time.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim. Bike.

Event comments:

Tri The Parks once again put on a great race. Mistletoe is scenic and quiet. A great family outing destination. It's "in the middle of no where". I recommend you bring a picnic lunch and stay and relax by the lake a few hours.
