Overall Rank = 563/876
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 42/54
Pre-race routine:

Woke up early. Checked gear. Coffee, eggs, and toast with Banana.
Event warmup:

Nope.
Swim
  • 39m 33s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my second Half. Last year a stopped every time I could and said a prayer. This year I did not have to stop and felt at ease in the water.
What would you do differently?:

Swim harder.
Transition 1
  • 03m 3s
Comments:

I did not practice transitions. I did not rush.
What would you do differently?:

Practice and get moving.
Bike
  • 2h 59m 30s
  • 56.3 miles
  • 18.82 mile/hr
Comments:

Course was great. Often times I got caught behind slower riders with faster riders passing and did not want to get in the way. I was also nervous not to draft after reading the rules and this affected cadence. I would have to push harder than I wanted to at times or slow more than I wanted at times. It was a bit frustrating.
What would you do differently?:

Worry less about others and incidental drafting.
Transition 2
  • 03m 51s
Comments:

I bought shoes at Endurance House recently and the salesman recommended a tying system that would disperse pressure on my foot more evenly. I like this, however, it still takes me a minute to tie my shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Try bungee lacing.
Run
  • 2h 29m 33s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 11m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm not sure if I drank too much or just too much gatorade. My stomach was upset by the end. I may have overdone nutrition on the bike. The run was tough and I was done around mile 9. I'm pretty frustrated that I didn't have it in me to push through the last 3 miles without walking. Last 3 miles were in direct sun and the temp was up there. Felt like crap.
What would you do differently?:

Suck it up. Train harder for run.
Post race
Warm down:

Ice bath, shade, beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I ran out of energy at the end.

Event comments:

I did High Cliffs last year so it is the only race I have for comparison. Door County was more expensive and worth every penny. I can't say enough about the support staff and aid station availability. Water, gatorade, and nutrition were plentiful. Course set up was great. Swim was well marked. Bike course was smooth. Run course was challenging. "I had an awesome time." -Frank the Tank.
