Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:40
Normal oatmeal breakfast
Loaded car for the 20 minute ride - got a late start but it was ok.
Got parked and headed down the hill for transition. I had down packet pick up and scouted the bike and run the day before.

Ran into a few of my fellow competitors.
Event warmup:

Ran 3/4 of mile
Got a little swim in
Swim
  • 19m 14s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 34s / 100 meters
Comments:

I liked my swim for the most part - it felt ok but the time was not so great. Kind of surprised. Only my 3 ever OWS swim
What would you do differently?:

Sighted better ; when I was thinking about it I sighted well but just lost my concentration
Transition 1
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

No clue my time
Bike
  • 43m 6s
  • 16 miles
  • 22.27 mile/hr
Comments:

Tough bike course; lots of rolling hilss. First 5 miles were slow then it picked. Followed a fellow master clyde the whole way which kept my pace up.
What would you do differently?:

Ride the course before - but its one some heavily traveled roads so not sure if that is even possible
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Grabbed some water which took time - I knew it was hot and wanted to get some fluids in
Run
  • 28m 39s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Given all the troubles with the hip and ankle, I knew the run was going to be the run. I actually walked some of the big hill I have to admit. Feel like the run might have been long
Post race
Warm down:

Warm down - glad to be standing

Event comments:

This race is not for beginners. The water is hot; the bike course has hills and little flats except for 21 (which has traffic including the semi) and the run is not for the faint of heart. As such, the race was full of people who run triathlons.

I finished second to the guy just kills our category. I frankly did not have a great attitude going into the race even considering staying home. The course preview I did was both helpful and also intimidating to me. The ankle and hip problems over the last month has been a pain too. So in the end, very proud of the effort but not sure if the race stays on the schedule
