Sunny
Total Time = 1h 27m 10s
Overall Rank = 21/218
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 3/11
Pre-race routine:

Race location is 1.5 miles from my house so it makes for a easy morning.
Event warmup:

Quick warm up on my bike and and then a swim warm up
Swim
  • 14m 4s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

By far my best swim ever as I cut 2:30 off my swim from previous year. Only four waves this year due to smaller numbers but I had clean water most of the race. Was able to draft off a couple of swimmers for teh first 1/2 then had a strong finish. Siting was very good though swimming directly into the sun was not fun. Ave 1:36/100!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m
Comments:

T1 was very fast (#1 in age group). Had wetsuit half way off during run to T1 adn it slipped off easily. Did not tie shoes up as I had been practicing mounting with them just hanging at it worked pefectly.

Bike
  • 42m 20s
  • 17.3 miles
  • 24.52 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike is a 2011 Cervelo P2 with HED Tri Spoke Carbon wheels

Because this is my "home" course I get a chance to ride it alot. I was able to get a fast start out of T1 and held it for the next few miles. Part of the early course is along a major highway and becasue of rumble strips there is a narrow area to ride on. This can also make passing difficult. Once you turn off the highway there is minimal trafic. Nutrtion was Infinit from an aero bottle on my aero bars. Pr on Bike by 2 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I did have to slow down a couple of times to avoid being a draft zone as I got into a miny pack of riders a few times but was able to pass them shortly after.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

T2 was not good, I over shot my tran area and then dropped my sunglases. Racked my bike and tehn had trouble with my left shoe. UHHG! Picked up glasses grabbed Garmin, dropped glasses picke them up and was off on the run
What would you do differently?:

Not sure what happend but would have like to have the 15 to 20 seconds I lost back
Run
  • 28m 47s
  • 3.9 miles
  • 07m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was tough as my HR shot up to the 180's from 150's on the bike (that is nornal for me) Typically I run inteh 150's and hit 160's during my sprint. pushed through and dumped water on my head at each water stop and walked the middle two and fianlly got my HR down. Was passed wiht .5 miles to go by #2 in my AG and tried to stay with him but had nothing left.

Still had a PR on the run course so can't complain too much. Ave 7:23/min miles.
What would you do differently?:

Need to train a littel moe on the run.. I tapered the run too early because of a sore knee and it hurt me.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a ice cold water and drained it then shoved ice down my shorts. Stretched the legs.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

did not run enough prior to race due to sore knee... but should have done some short high intensity runs instead of longer slow paced ones.

Event comments:

Numbers were down by about 90 (310 to 218) individual racers but a lot more relay racers. 1/2 mile swim scares off a lot of racers. However there is a lot of fast racers at this event. Great race and great venue with plenty to do with family before. Reall good kids triathlon the day before so you can make this a family event.
