Event warmup:

swam about 100 yards
Swim
  • 09m 54s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was very rough at the start, had guys on both sides of me forming a V an I was in the middle. Once to the first bouy started to run into slower traffic from the earlier waves. I went to the inside of the bouys and had no problems, round the last bouy and headed for home. A pretty smooth swim I did not have to sight much and other than the start not much contact. Stood up and clock read 8:28 which was my fastest split at MMT.
What would you do differently?:

nothing did the best that I could.
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

Little slow, I normally don't wear socks for sprints, but since the stress fracture it seems to help a little so it might have cost me :15 seconds or so. I also can't run really fast barefoot with the fracture yet.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, injury slowing me
Bike
  • 45m 23s
  • 16.6 miles
  • 21.95 mile/hr
Comments:

really had trouble getting started on the bike. Don't know what the problem was legs felt dead, and I was just breathing hard. Around mile 5 I started to get it going and felt better. last 5 miles has some rollers and the wind was in our face. I only had one guy pass me during the whole ride so a pretty boring ride no back and forths.
What would you do differently?:

not sure, had good bike fitness going in just did not have it today. Almost 2 min. slower than 2009
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

pretty good T2 ran with my bike shoes on because of the foot. probably lost :15 sec. not being able to do a flying dismount and running barefoot.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, foot injury slowing me
Run
  • 28m 11s
  • 3.75 miles
  • 07m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

I knew I would be slower here, just wanted the foot to hold up. Ran the first mile good, slowed in the woods on the second mile last year ran a 6:52 this year 7:50. last two miles just gutted it out try to catch my buddy who was about 2 min. up on me at the start. Just didn't have the speed or endurance to do it fell 12 seconds short. My foot did not hurt and I feel it is about 85% healed. I did this race to see where I'm at with this injury.
What would you do differently?:

nothing, lack of running and no speed work, I just could not hold faster paces. Time to start speed work and running agian as long as there is no foot pain Loss 1:30-2 min.
Post race
Warm down:

just talked

What limited your ability to perform faster:

being out of run shape, 2009 ran a 25:30, 2011 ran a 26:11 this year 28:11 now that I'm better need to do speed work

Event comments:

I love this race have done it every year but 2010. Not expensive, great course, good volunteers, nice goodies, and usually perfect weather.
