Pre-race routine:

Got there very early - which was nice and comforting really. Drove through heavy rain. It was cold and fairly miserable.
Event warmup:

Set everything up early and got into my wettie because it was too cold not to! Water was warmer than the air! 20C compared to 11C. Had a nice swim to warm up.

Comments:

Awesome swim. Replace the good with fantastic! Well, except for catching waves because there weren't any.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing at all. :)

Comments:

Okay, I was in lala land or something. Anyone watching would not have thought I was racing, lol. I think was on a high from the swim. Just kinda took my sweet time, oops.
What would you do differently?:

Go quicker? :P

Comments:

The wind was horrendous. My legs had nothing. Strong head/cross winds for 20 of the 27kms. I swore. A. Lot. Hated most of it.
What would you do differently?:

I don't know except that I need to get quicker. People FLEW past me. Why am I so damn slow?
Transition 2
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

Just more slowness. I think I was in slow-mo!
What would you do differently?:

Yes, go quicker.
Run
  • 43m 20s
  • 8 kms
  • 05m 25s  min/km
Comments:

Came second in the run by only 20secs. Really happy with this run. I had a lot left in the legs for it and basically just had fun!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of walking followed by changing clothes very very quickly. Windy. Cold. Brief patches of warm sun.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

It has been 5 weeks since my last race - too long! Also, I've been suffering badly from overtraining so have backed off a bit lately. Lots of physical ill-effects - lethargic, sore/achey all the time, hard to move, no energy. And the psychological effects have been worse. Moody, cranky, no motivation, hating exercise entirely - not good. All in all, I'm stoked I did so well all things considered.

Event comments:

I do like this race and had a good time today. Remembered why running off the bike was so much fun. Just wish I could shave decent time off my bike leg.
