Total Time = 2h 05m 21s
Overall Rank = 107/119
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 10/14
Pre-race routine:

got up and ate toast with Peanut Butter; just prior to race ate a Powerade Gel. Trying not to throw up from nerves.
Event warmup:

I had streched really well but I had major jitters.
Swim
  • 12m 44s
  • 481 yards
  • 02m 39s / 100 yards
Comments:

I did better than I thought I would. I had a really hard time breathing though and swam most of the way with my head out of the water. I did end up walking for the last 50 feet but I am ok w/that. (i walked faster than I swam!)
What would you do differently?:

I need lessons. Those will be completed before my next race for sure. I need technique lessons. Considering I have never learned how to swim freestyle correctly I think this could really help me. I would also like to go to a few open water swims.

Next time I would just try to get in my own pace rather than worrying about finishing last. I probably would have done better that way.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

T1 went very well. I was excited. My wet suit just kind of fell off.

When I was coming out of the water I had put my goggles on the top of my head and started pulling off the wet suit. I was able to get out of it in seconds.

What really slowed me down was not running enough with the bike and having to put on gloves and water pack
What would you do differently?:

Run faster w/the bike. I would like to say lose the water pack but I am just not talented enough to ride a bike and drink from a sports bottle. That is one thing I would like to work on.
Bike
  • 59m 59s
  • 12 miles
  • 12.00 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a really hard time getting over the swim into the bike. the first 6 miles sucked. The last 6 cruised. My chain popped off about 1 mile from transition. Otherwise it was a great ride. I felt very powerful coming in from the last half of the race.
What would you do differently?:

I wished I would have pushed myself harder in the first portion of the race. I kept up a good pace about 14mph(good for me)but I should have pushed harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

Not as good as I had planned since when I jumped off my bike I got a major charlie horse in my calf. Took a while to work it out.
What would you do differently?:

Pull my feet out of my pedals before getting to the dismount line. That is what screwed me up the most. Couldn't run to the transition area due to the leg cramp.
Run
  • 49m 39s
  • 3 miles
  • 16m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

I walked most of the run. Due partly to the charlie horse (at least at first) but then due to the fact that I seemed to walk faster than I was running.
What would you do differently?:

I should have pushed myself harder and ran more. I had not trained at all in the running so I will be practicing that before my next race. Then I may be able to run it all.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretch and walked. Could have used a massage. I did get one the next day with rubbing alcohol which did wonders for my muscles. I think I will try that right after the race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my head. I didn't push myself as hard as I should have. However I am very happy with this race considering I didn't drown and I didn't come in last. I accomplished my 2 main goals. Not to mention I finished in just over 2 hrs.

Event comments:

I don't have much to compare it too but it seemed that there wasn't much activity afterwards as I expected. However this is a race put on entirely by volunteers which I think did a great job.

It was a great first time race and now I know where I need to improve.
