Age Group Rank = 13/72
Pre-race routine:

I had a lemon larabar and stayed away from coffee this time around. I had 2 scoops of UCAN with 16 oz of water about 30 minutes before the race.
Event warmup:

Warmed up with 300m easy in the pool to make sure my HR strap would stay in place. Felt really good in the 50 meter pool.
Swim
  • 05m 9s
  • 300 meters
  • 01m 43s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim was not to bad. I got in the water found my rythm and swam very smooth. I didn't go all out but I kept a good pace. I passed 10+ people on the swim that obviously gave the wrong swim times. At one point I was stuck behind 3 people that I couldn't get passed in a 50 meter segment.
What would you do differently?:

I need to change my swim times when I register and give a faster time. I registered with a 5:30 swim time. Next time I won't make the same mistake.
Transition 1
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

T1 was great ... not sure why I was so slow. Must have been the run wwith the bike to the mounting line because I could have sworn that this was my best transition time ever.
What would you do differently?:

Work on speed ... running with the bike shoes.
Bike
  • 37m 28s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.22 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike course is 12.57 miles according to my Garmin which would change my average speed to 20.2mph which would make me a lot happier. The official speed is 19.2mph for the 12 miles. It was pretty windy and cold on the bike and the roads were still partially wet.
What would you do differently?:

More bike training to go faster ...
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

T2 was pretty good but because it was so cold I couldn't feel my feet. It felt like I was running on bricks.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing ...
Run
  • 25m 41s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

I stuck with my plan of small fast steps. 91spm is the best cadence I had yet. Running is clearly my weakest discipline and needs a lot of work.
What would you do differently?:

Training, training and training more ...
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was playing around with fueling and need just a little bit more next time. Maybe a small quick gel in T2.

Event comments:

I like the races that Dallas Athletes Racing puts on. It was very windy today and not quite as cold as it was last year. Oh yeah I forgot ... it wasn't raining he whole time like last year.
