Total Time = 1h 37m 45s
Overall Rank = 164/246
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 27/34
Swim
  • 20m 18s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 19s / 100 yards
Comments:

More Freestyle than I thought I had in me to start but got tired. Changed to breast stroke for most of the rest of the race after about 200 yrds. Near end tried to return to free style and was breathing to one side and ended up off course. Did not loose too much. Was excited to complete this leg as it was the biggest concern.
What would you do differently?:

No real problem except pace might have been a bit high for fitness level. Would like better overall swim fitness level for next race to be able to finish with more gas in the tank. This might mean holding back on the pace as well
Transition 1
  • 03m 14s
Comments:

Used to drinking more during the swim and was probably more winded than expected. So took time to catch an extra breath and drink some before continuing. Never practiced any flying starts and hill to start the bike might make that hard anyway.
Bike
  • 40m 45s
  • 10.8 miles
  • 15.90 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt strong. Tried to take a gel while riding and turned into a big mess. Hit the hills hard and no real killer hills, just lots of them.
What would you do differently?:

Take gel before or after bike, not during. Should look into energy drink mixes. Gatorade can be too sweet.
Transition 2
  • 02m 49s
Comments:

Pace on bike was hard, although last 1/2 mile was slight down hill. Felt like legs we missing
What would you do differently?:

Did not take any gel and should think about nutrition plan next time.
Run
  • 30m 39s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

No legs to start the race and spent a lot of time walking especially to start. Was excited about the time but never felt comfortable.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more Bricks to find new tricks keep legs fresh off the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Drinking lots of water, and some bagels

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My fitness level was the biggest limiter and after only a few months of training, I am really happy with the results.

Event comments:

It was a lot of fun for my first Triathlon and would highly recommend it for any first time triathlete.
