Total Time = 1h 23m 37s
Overall Rank = 31/400
Age Group = M25-29
Age Group Rank = 6/17
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30, packed my bag. Ate a Cliff Builder bar and had 8oz of water.
Event warmup:

Setup transition, walked into the water and tried not to shake too much.
Swim
  • 12m 19s
  • 805 meters
  • 01m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

I know I'm a weak swimmer, so I accept being MOP and, typically in my wave, all by myself. That said, I came out of the water around 11min and was thrilled. Last week, my 1600m time was 50+minutes, so this was definitely an improvement.
What would you do differently?:

I haven't been training the swim as hard this year, so ... yeah, that's what I'd do differently.
Transition 1
  • 01m 20s
Comments:

Had a couple of seconds bobble with my aero helmet over my big head, but otherwise was fine. When I got to my transition, I saw that my rubber bands for my shoes had already been broken, which sucked, but oh well.
Bike
  • 48m 49s
  • 17.7 miles
  • 21.76 mile/hr
Comments:

I have been spending a lot more time training on the bike this year so far, and really wanted to see what was in my legs. I was passing people near constantly, only got passed by 2-3 other guys (both from the wave after me, boo!).
What would you do differently?:

Probably put just a little too much into the bike and cost myself sometime on the run, but pretty happy overall.
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

Improved on previous T2 PR by 4 seconds
What would you do differently?:

Adjusted my number belt while standing still. Could have picked up a couple more seconds doing so on the move.
Run
  • 20m 23s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Right out of T2, I knew I had left a lot of energy out on the bike, and was having troubles stabilizing my breathing. I immediately caught up to another athlete in my wave and was content with sitting back and just shadowing him for the first 3-4 minutes before pushing past. That was probably a mistake that cost me 20 seconds on my first mile.
What would you do differently?:

Need to HTFU and just run. Last week I did a hard brick 12.5mile bike/4mile run, and was holding 5:20's/mi on the run. My confidence was wavering even before I got back into transition.
Post race
Warm down:

Snacks and water. Found some grass and stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Confidence

Event comments:

Wendy's is always a fun race. Lots of PRs today, which is fun too :)
