Comments:

I've never been fast in running events or Tri's. Need to lose more weight. OK, the run. I felt good on the run keeping my pace or slightly ahead of it for the first 6 miles, when my HR started to go into the higher zone that I don't really like to race at, I slowed down to control my HR. Other than that it was beautiful, perfect temperature, lots of participants and large number of people cheering us all on. I'd also like to say the the number of volunteers and the support they provided to the event was remarkable. Great job volunteers!
What would you do differently?:

Train more, train harder. That's it. This was my first ever 1/2 mary and I'm very satisfied with the achievement.
Post race
Warm down:

Post race brat and a drink, 1/2 bagel and some water. Walked around a bit to settle everything back into normal.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm overweight. Racing at 238lbs is not without it's additional challenges. I'd like to lose some more weight in the coming months.

Event comments:

I will be back again. Now that I've had a PR (of course I did it's my first race at this event and this distance). I want to go back next year and beat my time.

Performance: Good
HR too high from about mile 6 to the finish.
Course: Nice course, mostly flat and somewhat scenic for sure. The only detractor in my opinion off the course is that the road on Simmons island and through the park is in terrible repair and requires a constant eye to the ground to be sure you don't put your foot in a big hole or crack and end your race day early. Also the road out to Carthage College is sloped sideways a little more than was comfortable to me.
