Total Time = 2h 06m 35s
Overall Rank = 31/97
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 4/14
Pre-race routine:

Got up, ate a Clif Bar at 4:45am, arrived and volunteered for an hour or so before the race. Ate a Clif Shot (espresso) 30 min before the 6:45am start.
Event warmup:

None except walking around and guarding the bike area.
Swim
  • 18m 7s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 04s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim felt great and this is usually my second-best discipline, but the numbers say I had a below-average day.
What would you do differently?:

Train more? Don't know what else....my sighting was spot on and my form felt good. Something was off, though.
Transition 1
  • 02m 46s
Comments:

Put shoes/sox on in transition. This probably cost some time, but I had to dodge several riders who were trying to pedal and put their shoes on at the same time, however.
What would you do differently?:

No socks?
Shoes on bike??
Bike
  • 53m 21s
  • 20 miles
  • 22.49 mile/hr
Comments:

Drank 100 kCal of Heed starting at mile 10. Some folks were grumbling about all the turns, but "terrain is a neutral adversary." I was fine with it, but I was on a road bike w/ clip-on aerobars, so mycornering was fantastic.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, except get one of those $$$$ bikes that everyone else seemed to be riding.
Transition 2
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

Pretty standard transition.
Run
  • 50m 50s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

Good run. First 2 miles I felt really tight and was tempted to walk, but after that I felt fantastic. Had a hammer gel (non-caff) at mile 3.5 or so, and some cups of water at aid stations (one small cup of cytomat at mile 5). Felt great at the end!
What would you do differently?:

Kick in the afterburners a little earlier (mile 5??)
Post race
Warm down:

Walking around, getting race results.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need a new bike!!!!
T1 was slow.
Swim was bizarrely slow for me, still figuring that one out.

Event comments:

A good local event. Not a lot of bells and whistles. but a very good race. I volunteered the day before and the day of the event, so that was real learning experience. Good staff and volunteers, and having the results tabulated and ready before we left was fantastic, as was finding them in my email when I got home!
