Overcast
Total Time = 2h 16m 10s
Overall Rank = 9/115
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 2/11
Pre-race routine:

Alarm 4:40, coffee, cinnamon bread with pb and j, headed to race, arrived at race set up in transition area, a tad crowded
Event warmup:

very brief swim about 50 yards about 20 minutes prior to the waves starts
Swim
  • 25m 53s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

swim felt good, better than first tri of the year. Goggles were fogging so had to stop and rinse them 3x, kept the effort comfortable
What would you do differently?:

maybe time for new goggles
Transition 1
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

suit stuck on heels briefly, other than that, no major issues, T1 rank 29
What would you do differently?:

not sure what I could do, timing chip was in the way, a little bulky
Bike
  • 1h 06m 29s
  • 23.65 miles
  • 21.47 mile/hr
Comments:

one of my best bike segments, was able to stay in aerobars, also the high miles I've been putting in helped keep it comfortable, this was the highest pace I've been able to sustain
What would you do differently?:

not too much, one of my better bike segments at Olympic distance
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

someone on my rack before me kind of messed up the area and racked in my spot and moved my shoes, was able to deal with it, rack OK and get moving, T2 added to run for official time, I calculated 1:23
What would you do differently?:

not much, took a gel at transition exit
Run
  • 42m 30s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

first 2-3 miles felt good, fairly hard, would have preferred 6:30 pace, took a gel at the beginning and at mile 3, stopped for water at the beginning, bridge turns and beginning of the second lap, was able to sustain the pace for the entire run for the most part, solid run
What would you do differently?:

not much, wanted to go a few seconds faster but it felt OK, effort was hard
Post race
Warm down:

walked, drank propel they had on hand, bagel, banana, power bar recovery, talked to friend who finished 5th overall

What limited your ability to perform faster:

goggles on swim, a tad in transition, bike and run felt solid enough for me

Event comments:

events ran about 30 mins late, could have used one more drink station, nice they had pancakes at the end, overall I always enjoy this race, it is fast, this is my fifth year in a row, always nice to get an age group award
