Pre-race routine:

Got up around 6 and had eggs for breakfast. Then loaded the truck and headed to the race. We stayed overnight in a local hotel so the drive was about 15 minutes to the race site.
Event warmup:

We hung out in transition and checked out the swimm course. It was a little different this year. The water seemed to be the same temperature as last year but the wind was much lighter.
Swim
  • 28m 10s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 43s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was average for me and considering my lack of swim training this spring i was pleased with my time. I did have to turn on my back about three times to relax due to the suit being a little tight and heavy breathing! I needed to relax so i looked at the blue sky until i calmed down. Sighting was good and i swam a little better on the second half.
What would you do differently?:

practice more with the wet suit on.
Transition 1
  • 04m 57s
Comments:

I had a plan to take an extra minute in transition and make sure i was ready to hit the hills right out of transition.
What would you do differently?:

Practice swimming more so ifelt better during transition.
Bike
  • 1h 38m 28s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 15.14 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

Try to find a way to train on hills! I live in Midland Texas and it is very flat. The wind is my biggest challenge.
Transition 2
  • 03m 18s
Comments:

again i had a plan to sit in transition and make sure everything felt right before i left to do my run/walk!
Run
  • 1h 17m 25s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 12m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

I knew that i had not trained so i had a plan to run/walk as best as i could! I accomplished my goal and made it to the finish. My goal in the June race will be to run the complete 6.2 miles.
What would you do differently?:

Train!!!!!!
Post race
Warm down:

had some muscle milk and talked to my firends. Walked up the evil first hill with all my gear to the parking area! This course always has the last laugh!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training! Lack of Training!

Event comments:

I love to come to this race because it is only two hours away. I also like the challenge of the hills on the bike! I also want to do the 1/2 iron in June next year so i need to keep practicing.
