Pre-race routine:

Had some breakfast at home and then drove the ~70min to Port Republic.
Event warmup:

Jogged for ~10min or so and took a few strokes in the water.
Swim
  • 13m 59s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Always amazed how much banging I get at this race. Maybe it's just that I don't do many (any) other sprints where people are really pushing the swim leg. Anyway, swim was OK. Slow, but OK.
Transition 1
  • 01m 22s
Comments:

33rd OA. Only an OK transition. A little slower thanks to the large pools of water at the entrance and exit from the rain overnight, but I still gave up at least 10sec from not staying focused enough.
What would you do differently?:

Be quicker.
Bike
  • 38m 58s
  • 15 miles
  • 23.30 mile/hr
Comments:

Here, again, it wasn't a bad ride but it just wasn't as good as I expected from myself. My legs didn't seem to have it. I did have some saddle trouble. As I mounted the bike, the nose of the saddle tilted down. I was able to 'hammer' it back up somewhat with my fist but it remaind downward tilted for the out portion of the ride. At the turn, I again 'hammered' it up. This time I went too far and had to bang it back down a bit to get it more level. That did seem to help with my comfort on the way back. But I think it was more that my legs just weren't 'all there' today.
Transition 2
  • 00m 40s
Comments:

25th OA. This transition was fine, even if I could have still shaved a few seconds more.
Run
  • 28m 49s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Same as bike, my legs just never felt great. I passed one runner and was passed by two others (both in my AG). To be honest, my speed was faster than I would have guessed. This felt slow to me and I expected to be able to run almost 2min faster. That would have kept me ahead of one of the guys who passed me. And fighting hard to hold off the other near the finish (clearly a much better runner than I am).
Post race
Warm down:

Enjoyed some good food and watched the kids race.

Event comments:

Love this race, especially with the Bambino Biathlon for the kids. Jack is too old now, but both Emma and Sarah did it (and each broght a friend to do it with them). Emma managed 2nd female (and her friend Katie 3rd). Sarah's friend Julia took 3rd in their AG. Sarah had a good/fun race (her first multi-sport), but got stuck in T1 trying to get her helmet buckled and lost contact with Julia.
