Pre-race routine:

Pretty easy morning as the race is just down the street and up the hill in Jerome. Had two pieces of toast and coffee, took care of the dogs, and headed out to the race. I grabbed my watch and was looking around all confused cause that is all I needed
Event warmup:

Start was at 1 mile away from the parking lot so just walked on down. Lots of folks ran down but I didn't see the point, there would be plenty of running in my morning. I already had foam rolled and stretched at home before leaving

Comments:

I had found a race report online from someone's blog and so I knew going into the run the first two miles were the hardest and that if you over did it there you were pretty hosed. It starts immediately with a long climb on a dirt road. I just kept a nice easy steady pace. Around me folks were breathing like there was no oxygen left in the world. I passed a lot of folks in the first mile. After your first mile you run back past the parking lot. I could have stopped right there and drove home. lol I kept going and feel into step with some guy and I asked him if that was the last hill. The look he gave was priceless. We talked for a bit until we came to the next significant hill. I had to slow way down on this one and just concentrate on keeping the legs moving. I passed a few more folks here and that was pretty much the last of any major passing.

The rest of the run was just a nice steady climb, all very doable. The views were amazing. I have run some scenic runs in my time but this race topped my list I think. As we neared mile 4 I heard behind me some guy ask just how far the race was. Um, you signed up for a race and have no idea how long it is?!?!?!
What would you do differently?:

Probably just overall longer distances so that I could have held a faster pace towards the end. My leg muscles were feeling it towards the end. Or perhaps not go mountain biking the day before and use the exact same muscles as an uphill race would use?!!? At least not get lost mountain biking and bike further then intended
Post race
Warm down:

Why run 3.5 miles back down the hill to the vehicle of course. What else would you do for a cool down!?!?!?

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just overall run training. Still building the miles and I just threw this race in cause it looked fun

Event comments:

Only disappointment was the lack of cold water on the course. All piss warm water. For the cost I did not expect post race activities, not to mention the fact everyone had to run on back down the hill, and especially for the cost. And it is in Jerome, the post race activities took care of itself for those who wanted to stay up there quite frankly.
