Overall Rank = 103/127
Age Group = M 25-29
Age Group Rank = 9/10
Pre-race routine:

Wake up at 4:30 and eat an English muffin with peanut butter, bananas, and honey. Set up transition at 5:30. Get the wetsuit on!
Event warmup:

Walking 3/4 mile to the swim start from the transition area.
Swim
  • 34m 16s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 17s / 100 meters
Comments:

Pretty freaky in the water with all of those people at first. I wasn't concerned with the swim, but when actually starting and swimming against the current, it did get my anxiety heightened.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. For my first tri, I felt like the swim went really well.
Transition 1
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

Went a lot faster than I thought it would. I did have plenty of time to get my suit started coming off on the run to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. I'm happy with my first transition ever!
Bike
  • 1h 23m 27s
  • 40 kms
  • 28.78 km/hr
Comments:

The bike course was easy to navigate, and the part I was looking most forward to. I hadn't planned on how cold it would be riding wet though! after the sun came out on the black top, I dried out pretty quick. My next problem rose when I drank a little too much, I guess, and I had to pee, BAD I couldn't seem to go on the bike, I tried... :)
What would you do differently?:

I would push the pace a little more. I was holding back a little to save myself for the run, but I was miserable on the run anyway, so I wish I would have gained a little more time on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

T2 went pretty well to me. I didn't do a flying dismount, and I left my bike shoes on while running to my rack. I don't mind what little penalty that gave me because I lacked the practice of transitions.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I'm happy with it.
Run
  • 1h 10m 10s
  • 10 kms
  • 07m 01s  min/km
Comments:

It sucked. I knew it would. I didn't run enough in training and I haven't ever liked running anyway. I did run the entire course, but it was slooowwww.
What would you do differently?:

Run more in training!
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around with my wife and parents, happy to have completed my first tri!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall fitness.

Event comments:

I didn't have any prior experience with tris so I have nothing to base it on, but I thought it went well!
