Pre-race routine:

Before the race (about 1 hour), I ate 1/2 bagel It didn't bother me during the race.
Event warmup:

I lightly jogged maybe 30 secs or 1 minute and also did some shoulder rotations. About 1/2 hour before the race we got in the water and swam around a bit.
Swim
  • 09m 43s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

I did about as good as to be expected especially since this was my first tri. The water was very nice.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster if possible!

Bike

Comments:

I had a slight mechanical problem. Because my bike was new and also cuz I didn't know any better than to leave the wheel reflectors on, the reflector on the back wheel became loose but didn't fall off. It then started making a clicking sound every time it came around. This occurred at the start of the bik on the uphill portion and I just didn't want to stop. After a minute or so it fell off and I was very pleased about that. It did slow me down a bit but not too much.
What would you do differently?:

I would use the large chain ring in the front. I didn't use that at all cuz I had only just purchased my bike and had little experience with it.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 23m 4s
  • 2.49 miles
  • 09m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

I really was hurting on the run although I never stopped and walked. I ran the whole way but I was very slow and I knew it.
What would you do differently?:

Train more and better prepare myself for the run
Post race
Warm down:

At the finish line, someone offered me a cold bottled water and I hung out and waited for some friends to finish up. There was also some watermelon which tasted pretty good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fitness level was my overall weakness. I did this race after only having trained about 5 or 6 weeks. I am happy with my performance but I was pretty weak and I felt it.

Event comments:

This is a very very good race for someone doing their first tri. The lake has a green hue, has decent visibility, and is slightly salty making the swim very enjoyable. The distances are all very short even by sprint standards making this a very good first race. I was a bit worried about doing this race since I had only been training for a very short period of time. But after having done the race I am super happy about it and I gained a whole lot of triathlon experience. This race is recommended for first timers especially.
