Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 3:45am. Had an egg sandwich with veggie sausage. Charlie picked me up and we got there a bit early. It was chilly, but not too bad.
Event warmup:

The first few miles!
Bike
  • 6h 35m
  • 101.5 miles
  • 15.42 mile/hr
Comments:

We (Charlie Ben and I) started out pretty quick. The climb up to Carter Lake slowed us down a bit. The decent from there was awesome; I reached my max speed here: 50 mph.

The climb up Big Thompson Canyon was awesome. It wasn't bad until the last two miles or so. At some points, I was going 4 mph (but I didn't stop!). The view at the top was beautiful. From there, it was a lot of fast downhills, then some rollers (which were a pain in the ass at 85 miles!). I'm very happy with this time. I don't know if I would have been quite so fast if Ben wasn't pushing it a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Post race
Warm down:

Some stretching in the shade. And eating!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Maybe the heat, but no complaints.

Event comments:

This was a great race. All of the rest stops were packed with drinks and snacks. I definitely plan to do it again next year.

They raised $1 million plus. I hope that they get a lot of the food, drinks, prizes, etc., donated at a deep discount so that the great majority of the money goes to diabetes research.
