Pre-race routine:

Eat breakfast, pack up the girls and head out.
Event warmup:

None. Running a bit late, oops!

Swim
  • 31m 12s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
Comments:

Opted for no wetsuit. Water was 80 F, so I figured I'd sacrifice speed for an enjoyable swim. It didn't disappoint, the water felt so refreshing. Swam hard the entire time.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I swam pretty hard (really sore the next day). I put the swim around 1.1 miles or so based on other peoples' times and my own experience in the pool. I'm happy with this swim, but there is lots of room for improvement.
Transition 1
  • 02m 2s
Comments:

Had to get my tri top on. That was a bit of a time sink.
What would you do differently?:

Thinking about going back to the one piece. Need to learn to transition with shoes in the pedals.
Bike
  • 1h 10m 45s
  • 24.8 miles
  • 21.03 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt like absolute garbage the first 6 miles. My legs felt so weak (because of kicking during the swim...) that I stopped to check that my back brake wasn't rubbing the wheel track. Eventually I settled in an just rode. Nice course, only one stretch of rough pavement.
What would you do differently?:

Work on the kick in the pool and not kick so much in the swim?
Transition 2
  • 01m 12s
What would you do differently?:

A little slow, but I made it out.
Run
  • 42m 40s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 06m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran pretty evenly the whole time. It was getting quite warm and humid out, but I just focused on the road ahead. Stitched up pretty badly (every race this year???!!) about 0.5 miles from the end. Ran through it this time.
What would you do differently?:

Must figure out this stitching problem. Never happens in training.
Post race
Warm down:

Drink some water, hang out with Pete and the girls.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Forgot to charge my garmin, so I had no pacing for the race. My bike effort might have been better with power and most certainly my run would have been 1-2 min faster with a bit of clock motivation. Still, for going blind I executed very well and raced hard.

Event comments:

This race just made my yearly calendar. Great course, super well run, and not overly crowded. What a great time the girls and I had!

Definitely recommend this one.
