Pre-race routine:

4:15 wake-up, shower. Nutrition was apple, nut bar, and banana in transition while setting up. First time I did not have coffee before a race, no spots were open.
Event warmup:

Short swim in Lake MI, no running/biking.

Came out to strong and struggled with breathing early on. Settled in and had a pretty good swim based on previous results.
What would you do differently?:

Get a few more open water swims in Lake MI before race.

Work on cornering and turns in aero position as opposed to coming up each time.

I need to get better at riding on top of shoes and dismount.

Started a little slow while getting legs but settled in nicely.
What would you do differently?:

I think I could have started to push a little earlier in the race. A 5K should be pretty hard the whole time.

More riding in the rain and stop being such a wuss while cornering/turns.

Event comments:

Well organized for a first time event. Rain spoiled the after party, but I picked up my first age group win so that was cool!
