The Gold Nugget Triathlon
60F / 16C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 39m 28s
Overall Rank = 380/1453
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 58/178
Pre-race routine:

Up early. Showered. Yoga. Ate toast; blueberry, strawberry, banana smoothie (so excited I accidently threw some of it away); and a cashew nut bar
Event warmup:

Swam a few laps about five minutes before the start.
Swim
  • 12m 54s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Pool is marked strangely. Couldn't find the wall on one end. And was not prepared for the difficulty getting out of the pool. It took at least three times before I could heave myself up.
What would you do differently?:

Count my strokes to build consistency so I can find the wall on both ends without a problem. And practice getting out on the deep end when I'm tired.
Transition 1
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

Was not prepared for vertigo trying to get socks on was not bad. They don't stick so much as it was hard to steady myself.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe no socks? Or just be sure to steady myself on my bike or sometime as I get on my shoes.
Bike
  • 48m 25s
  • 12 miles
  • 14.87 mile/hr
Comments:

Road by military area is terrible!
What would you do differently?:

More weight training to gain strength to push my bike faster.
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

The volunteers are wonderful
What would you do differently?:

I need to figure out how to get my feet out of my shoes and ride with them on top.
Run
  • 35m 13s
  • 4.1 miles
  • 08m 35s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

Maybe fueled a little more on my bike ride.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked all over the place and to my car and back several time.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Possibly not fueling during the race. In need of more strength training, better swim technique, and more time on my bike

Event comments:

The first part of the run just needs to be marked a bit better. There are a few turnoffs, and though they marked the trail with pink arrows sprayed in the dirt, they were partially covered by the time I came through.
