Overall Rank = 16/74
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 1/4
Pre-race routine:

Pre-rode mountain bike course. Were still in the process of marking the course during my ride and ended up doing the loop a third time on accident. 17.5 miles total for my pre-ride the day before which probably wasn't smart.
Swim
  • 12m 36s
  • 800 meters
  • 01m 35s / 100 meters
Comments:

Overall I thought the swim went well. I felt like I swam reasonably straight and sighted well. My goggle was kicked loose rounding a bouy but I recovered quickly and kept going.
What would you do differently?:

Need to relax and think about swim technique and not going too hard.
Transition 1
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

Transition went pretty smooth but need to practice this a little more to save a few more seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Need to practice more.
Bike
  • 1h 22m 5s
  • 12 miles
  • 8.77 mile/hr
Comments:

First lap I rode hard to try to get some people behind me. The technical sections caused a few bottle necks on the first lap, but on the second lap the course was pretty much clear. Second lap I tried to slow things down a little but still maintain a fast pace.
What would you do differently?:

Mostly need to work on fitness, and possibly consider more aggressive tires.
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Pulled gloves while still riding in on the bike, forgot to hit lap button as I entered transition, but remembered as I was putting on my shoes. Overall I though this went pretty smooth.
What would you do differently?:

Run
  • 32m 11s
  • 6 kms
  • 05m 22s  min/km
Comments:

The course was pretty smooth so I managed to keep a pretty good pace. My hamstring started to cramp up around 2 miles in, and I had to quickly stop and stretch it out. After stretching I managed to finish the run without further cramping. The heat got to me especially toward the end while climbing the big hill in the sun. Thankfully the aid stations were manned and provided water.
What would you do differently?:

Possibly wear a visor. Might want to carry a gel flask full of water.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a Gatoraid and sat in the shade under the pavilion.

Event comments:

Short swim in nice small lake. Fun technical course with a mix of flow and technical riding. Fast exposed run course with some big hills. This was a fun event at a nice location.

Course: Course was a lollipop course with aproximately two 5.75 mile loops. There were both fast flow sections and rocky technical sections. On the flow parts the soil was a little loose slid easily around corners. The course had some mild climbing, but mostly rolling terrain.

Course: Smooth but hilly single and double track. Large portions of the trail lacked tree cover and thus the temperature was hot. One portion of the trail was overgrown and hard to follow, could have been marked a little better. There was one long big hill toward the end of the run that was brutal.
