Pre-race routine:

some trouble sleeping, finally up at 4:45, coffee, breakfast cookie and banana in car on way to race, saw BT's Doug, Joel and Karen along with another friend Mike at the race, race started over 30 min late, they made us all cross the timing mat one by one, not sure what problems they were having
Event warmup:

quick 5 to 6 min swim to warm up, lots of jellies in the water, definitely a bad omen
Swim
  • 17m 10s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt good swimming straight out to the first buoy, did a little drafting, had a straight line to the first buoy, not too much traffic, turned the corner and head to the wrong buoy, luckily a kayaker got me back on course, then wham!! my left arm came down on a huge jelly fish, major stinging on my left arm and armpit, took my breath away for a few minutes, overall I think I got stung about three times, but the left arm was the worst, I managed to get back on track and finish fairly strong
What would you do differently?:

knowing now how prolific (and hungry) the jelly fish were, I would have worn my full suit; I thought I would be too hot so I wore my sleeveless, that and make sure I swim to the corrst buoy :), I did take about 2 mins off my swim time form last year
Transition 1
  • 03m 15s
Comments:

long run up the beach and then sidewalk to T1, my husband kept yelling at me to move faster :), I did stop outside transistion area to have my left armhosed down with fresh water, my T1 was really long last year so this time is an improvement
What would you do differently?:

move faster, get my wetsuit off quicker :)
Bike
  • 45m
  • 12.74 miles
  • 16.99 mile/hr
Comments:

my best bike split in tri's so far, can't complain too much :)
What would you do differently?:

bike more, do some bike intervals
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

I'm very slow getting off my bike; I really need to work on that, I forgot my extra bottle for the run course, probably my only big blunder of the day
What would you do differently?:

remember to take my water bottle with me :)
Run
  • 35m 20s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 22s  min/mile
Comments:

really bad run for me; I couldn't get into any rhythm, couldn't get my HR in check, I forgot my water bottle so I had to wait until the first water stop to take my extra gu, I think I was done by then
What would you do differently?:

need to plan my bike/run hydration/nutrition stategy better, that and pick a course that has more shade :)
Post race
Warm down:

hung out, waited for Karen to finish her first tri :), had some food and drink, got 2nd in Athena but they were having major problems with the results so we left before they were handed out :(

What limited your ability to perform faster:

my first tri in over a year, training is not like racing; I know what I need to work on before my Oly the end of August, I did take about 2 min off my time from this race lsat year

Event comments:

This could have been a great race, but with the late start and then the issues with the results at the end; it was just an OK race. I hope they can fix some of their organizational issues; it's one of three tri's that are within 30 min of where I live; I'd like to do the longer distcance next year.
