Sunny
Total Time = 1h 35m 24s
Overall Rank = 264/1451
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 44/178
Pre-race routine:

I had one of the very last bib numbers so I wasn't allowed to check in til after 2 pm. Had to get up early to set up my transition area. Afterwards, went home and tried to take it somewhat easy.
Event warmup:

nothing
Swim
  • 08m 31s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was a horrible swim for me. I had to wait in the pool deck line forever before starting! The circle swimming in a pool really threw me off and I did not pace well. I also had trouble seeing the wall for turns. I "think" the lap counter had me swim an extra length which would explain the time. However I was still in the top 7% overall.
What would you do differently?:

Pace better and not get flustered trying to pass other swimmers in a pool.
Transition 1
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

slow...... I haven't practiced transitions all year. I chose to wear socks and felt somewhat lazy putting my shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

practice transitions, no socks, put on helmet in pool area, no shoe laces
Bike
  • 46m 16s
  • 12 miles
  • 15.56 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt really good about the bike. Though my pace was slower than I like, there was a pretty stiff head wind for most of it and some hills. I really worked on keeping cadence high and I think it helped.
What would you do differently?:

keep practicing
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

also slow
What would you do differently?:

practice
Run
  • 36m 27s
  • 4.1 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Run felt good. I am a few pounds heavier than I would like and have been struggling w/ running at a faster pace this season
What would you do differently?:

Lose weight!
Post race
Warm down:

walked around with family. waited for the volunteers to bring my bike back from T2.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

training, my weight.....

Event comments:

This was a women's only triathlon and an Anchorage tradition. Lots of first time triathletes on the course and a very warm, inviting atmosphere. I would highly recommend it as a first triathlon for anyone! Definitely felt different than some of the other tri's I have participated in! All the volunteers rocked!

One note - I hate pool swims and with a late bib number I didn't even get to start till almost 4pm. After waiting on deck for close to an hour, when it finally was my turn I think my motivation had waned! I hate pool swims.....
