Pre-race routine:

Got packed and ready the night before. Got up around 5:00. Ate a bowl of oatmeal with some coffee when I got up. Out the door at 5:45. Also ate a bagel with peanut butter at 6:00 during the car ride. Got to the race site at 6:45. Got checked in, body marked, and set up by 7:15.
Event warmup:

I swam out to the first buoy and back to get loose.
Swim
  • 13m 24s
  • 600 meters
  • 02m 14s / 100 meters
Comments:

This was my first tri of the season. Overall I'm happy. I shaved some time off my swim split from two years ago. There is a ton of contact during the first 200 meters of this race. After 200 meters it thinned out.
Transition 1
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Happy with T1.
Bike
  • 43m 37s
  • 14.7 miles
  • 20.22 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike leg for me. Shaved several minutes from my bike split as compared to two years ago at this race. Started to fatigue at the end. Need to pick up the intensity of my training.
What would you do differently?:

Probably need to spend time practicing the swim to bike transition. My HR and breathing were going crazy during the first few miles of the bike leg. Took me a little bit of time to settle in.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

OK T2. Not great but not terrible for me. I have the worst habit of letting my mind wander during T2. For example, standing at the bike rack while I'm putting on my race belt, hat, and sunglasses. I can put these things on while I'm running out of T2. I've made this mistake before. Mentally lazy.
What would you do differently?:

Get moving after I get my shoes on!
Run
  • 22m 11s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Legs felt heavy coming out of T2. Took me some time to get my legs under me. Lost some time getting up to speed.
What would you do differently?:

Brick workouts! The answers are always obvious in hindsight. For some odd reason, I did not do any brick workouts preparing for this race. Good news, this is problem which is easily solved.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, drank water, ate fruit, etc.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

First race of the year. Made some mental mistakes I won't make the rest of the year. Need to up the training intensity.

Event comments:

This is good venue. Well organized. Will do it again.
