Pre-race routine:

Almost forgot to eat lunch today. At about 3:30, I realized why I was so hungry and figured I'd better eat so I wouldn't bonk. Came home after work at the usual time, changed clothes, and drove to the venue.
Event warmup:

Mostly watched the weather and hoped for the best! There were thunderstorms going on 45 min. before the race was supposed to start. Drove over figuring I'd hang out in the car if need be. By the time I got there, the rain was done so I parked and checked in. Did make a couple trips back to the car to drop off stuff. 2nd trip was solely because I HAD to get a monkey knapsack and they weren't available when I picked up my bib. Other than that, tried to sit down as much as possible to minimize wear and tear on my back.

Comments:

PR'd again!! First 5k that I've done without walking. I had a goal of 10:15 mpm and came in under that. Ran a little faster to start, then reminded myself to run my own race instead of the pace of others around me. I started out about 2/5 back from the front and passed up a fair number of people who pooped out within the first mile or so.

At about mile 2, I encouraged a 12 y.o. boy who was walking. He picked up his paced and ran with me for most of the next mile. We chatted as we ran. It was pretty cute. He told me about how he'd run the Bolder Boulder this year and that he was the fastest in his family except for his college-aged brother. About 0.2 mi. from the end, he dropped back to a walk so he could "go fast at the end." I told him I expected him to pass me but I think my pace was just a little fast for him. I meant to wait for him afterwards to congratulate him but forgot. Oops.

Felt like I could have pushed more at the end; still had some left in the tank. Since I was using this as a training run and still had another 20 min. to go for the day, it was okay that I didn't go all out.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get better at drinking during races.
Post race
Warm down:

Met Alex at the finish line, then walked back to the car to drop off my Garmin and water bottle. After that, we went into the zoo, where I had a piece of not-very-good pizza and we walked around awhile. When we left, I ran home from the zoo to round out my 50 min. of running for the day.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing really other than overall fitness.

Event comments:

Start and finish got a little congested because the timing mat was kind of small. Other than that, fun family race with some entertaining costumes.
