Pre-race routine:

We left Ithaca at 2:45 and arrived at 5:00 for a 5:30 race. This was not really enough time to register, potty, and warm up well.
A suppertime start is kind of hard to eat for. I had a regular breakfast & lunch, half a Hammer bar at 3:00 and another half at 4:00. Drank some Heed while warming up.
Event warmup:

Everything was kind of abbreviated. Did my stretches but not joint looseners; ran easy for 12:36 including 2 bursts. Finished only 8 minutes before start time.

Comments:

I kind of thought the race start would be delayed because the high schoolers were behind schedule & still running the course. After my hurried warm-up I started walking towards the start line and saw everyone already lined up. I had to run over there to even make the whistle and had less than a minute to recover before starting the race.
My goal for this race was 28:20, which would be a pace :05 faster than the first race. I was 06 seconds total shy of my goal. Who knows if I would have made it without the start confusion, but it was still improvement. It was also pretty hot (78 degrees). I don't think I've run 10 times this year in temps that warm.
My other goals: HR average 144 for last 2 miles (done); not be last (done); push myself as hard as I could in the last mile. I'd say I accomplished that with HR in zone 5a for 3:18, 5b for 1:15 (in 15-35 second bursts), and zone 5c for :55 (in 10-25 second bursts).
Didn't really have GI distress, but in the final push I did wonder what it would feel like to vomit while running.
What would you do differently?:

Get to the start line on time.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Had Recoverite, Fizz, and 1/2 Recovery bar. Also a banana and sample size Builder bar. Forgot to roll & stretch. Went out to supper with my team & rode home. Too late to stretch. Leg felt ok but hurt in the middle of the night.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just need more training.

Event comments:

The course is kind of boring (looping around the grass) and also confusing. Lots of high-schoolers finishing up and then going home. Random people walking around the paths. It was sometimes hard to see which way to go.
