Pre-race routine:

Drove the hour from home to the shuttle location. Rode the bus over with my wife and caught up with friends at the race start.
Event warmup:

Not much other than some walking around.
Run
  • 1h 22m 17s
  • 12 kms
  • 06m 52s  min/km
Comments:

The dirt roads were very rough with lots of ruts and powdery dirt that made for huge dust clouds. Rolled my ankle a little on the steep downhill section, but not bad enough to make me stop running.
What would you do differently?:

Definitely train more hills and just run more in general on the dirt.
Post race
Warm down:

Some walking around and then food

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training

Event comments:

Well organized race with good food afterwards. Trail races are a different breed from road races, so you have to adjust (carry water, no porta-potties on the course, etc.)

Performance: Good
Course: The course starts off with a steep uphill climb for about half a mile before we hit the dirt roads. After the first climb the course is flat for the next 2.5 miles before you hit an even bigger climb than the first. After a mile of a gradual climb, you turn off onto single track trail and bomb downhill (350ft drop in .5 miles) and then you backtrack to the finish.
