Pre-race routine:

Arrived at race around 5:30 Picked up shirt and number and set up transition in the dark. Ate a couple of bannanas and drank a bottle of Gatorade.
Event warmup:

Didn't warm up at all. Looking back I should of jumped in the water.
Swim
  • 04m 40s
  • 100 yards
  • 04m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

Two words I PANICKED. It was supposed to be a 400 yard swim but since it was my first in the open water I freaked when I couldn't see more than 3 feet in front of me. Tried to do breaststroke didn't work. Tried to keep going with my head out of the water but finally put my hand up for help. Got brought back in to shore with about 4 other guys from my wave. :(
What would you do differently?:

Need to get some open water swim practice. Do more endurance training
Transition 1
  • 11m 20s
Comments:

Time includes the walk of shame down the beach back to T1 after getting brought back in to shore. Even though I got brought back in they let us finish the bike and run. Had no problem removing the wetsuit but I did have a little problem with the socks on wet feet. Bike rack was too short and I couldn't get it out. Had to run around the rack to get it out.
What would you do differently?:

Rack my bike so it will come out easy. Practice riding without socks.
Bike
  • 34m 47s
  • 11 miles
  • 18.97 mile/hr
Comments:

Pushed the bike pretty well. Had plenty of energy since I had a shorter swim ;) Course was pretty crowded with 1000 racers in the field. About 40% were first timers and were all over the course making it hard to pass sometimes.
What would you do differently?:

be a little more agressive passing people
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

No problems this time. had to walk bike through transition so it took a little while.
What would you do differently?:

nothing really
Run
  • 31m 21s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good on the run. Didn't have to walk at all :) The hills did get to me a little
What would you do differently?:

start off a little slower
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not being able to finish the swim :( Not enough swim training

Event comments:

Good race for beginners. You have to get there early to get a decent transition spot or else you'll end up against a tree.
