Run
Comments: race went well. I had no goals, other than to finish. I expected it to be hot and humid and it was surprisingly cool adn not humid. Still about 10deg warmer than I would have liked, but it was very pleasant. The first 7.8 miles out and back was nice and hilly. It went through some lush forests, along the beach, and saw a bit of everything. Once we came back thru town, there was a dull ~3 mile stretch to the final turn around about mile 21. Then, it was back down a dull stretch to ~24. It was still very pretty, but not as pretty as the first half. maybe I was so tired at that point that it wouldn't have mattered anyway. Finished 3:51, which was great. I really thought breaking 4hrs would be a real struggle, and was expecting closer to 4:15. I feel great today, with minimal soreness What would you do differently?: nothing Post race
Warm down: got a beer - the ONLY drink I could find. I wanted it, but was surprised that I couldn't find a bottle of water or gatorade to go with it. Walked back to the hotel and got ready to fly out. What limited your ability to perform faster: nothing Event comments: Nice race in Hilo. Course was very scenic, but a bit hilly. I've not run other Hawaiian marathons, but Hilo is my least favorite of the Maui/Kauia/North Shore areas. Last updated: 2014-12-10 12:00 AM
