Age Group Rank = 5/40
Pre-race routine:

Showed up to the race and met some of the crowd from the Wichita connections
Event warmup:

Did one bike loop around the 5 lap course
Swim
  • 06m 51s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

Liked the pool swim. Very calming being in clear water as opposed to the lake.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder
Transition 1
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Hard run from swim - Inspired to sprint out of water by watching first few athletes out of the water
Bike
  • 28m 40s
  • 10.58 miles
  • 22.14 mile/hr
Comments:

Spent the entire bike "running" from ott & kpallen trying to make sure they weren't going to track me down. So much so that I almost slid out on the first hard turn.
What would you do differently?:

Train on a flat course to get used to maximum effort on a flat course for 10 miles
Transition 2
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

Felt great about t2. Dismounted fast and ran hard with bike
Run
  • 22m 59s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Chased CJones the entire second half of the run. Need to be more aggresive on the sprint distance run and not be so concerned with running out of gas
What would you do differently?:

run harder. try to get closer to the 7 minute pace.
Post race
Warm down:

Had a great time cheering in the rest of our group at the finish line, some of which were first timers and fulfilling a dream by completing the race. It was awesome to share their sense of accomplishment!!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Smim - not enough effort
Bike - I'm slow
Run - too much energy conserving

Event comments:

When I first got invited to this race I thought "3 hour drive for a pool swim tri? Why?" But I had a blast and really enjoyed the fellowship with my new group of friends. As hard as we raced there was still a whole group of guys faster than us taking all of the hardware. It was a reminder that this sport is about so much more than just trying to make "top 3"
Considering that I burned out on this sport in 2003 I'm trying to remind myself to enjoy the ride of all of the training and racing as opposed to getting mad that I didn't run the race 45 seconds faster than I did.
