Overcast
Total Time = 1h 57m 18s
Overall Rank = 105/132
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 9/17
Pre-race routine:

granola bar and green tea. light stretching
Event warmup:

light jog to scope out transitions. only had the opportunity for a 4 minute swim warm up.
Swim
  • 24m 47s
  • 880 meters
  • 02m 49s / 100 meters
Comments:

I went off course quite a bit, kind of a zig zag especially between the 2nd and 3rd buoy. Otherwise, I think I swam decently (for my own skills). Fell into a rhythm of 8-10 breaths before sighting. wasn't too difficult. only went on my back twice, for 20 strokes each time.
What would you do differently?:

better sighting. maybe every 6-8 breaths?
Transition 1
  • 09m 2s
Comments:

very long run from swim to T1....they advertised it as a quarter mile, but I felt like I was running fast and it took me like 3 minutes to run it. I added this into the T1 time....even though the official mats were only right at the transition area. so the official timing looks like my swim was terrible with a fast transition. in reality swim was OK, transition took forever.
What would you do differently?:

nothing really. it seemed fine.
Bike
  • 52m 56s
  • 12.39 miles
  • 14.04 mile/hr
Comments:

passed 3 people. lots of hills, got into the drops coming down the hills. didn't have much time to drink, too many hills and gear changes to deal with. drank about 8oz Gatorade. sharing the road with cars....some big trucks were being assholes.
What would you do differently?:

train hills better
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

lost a water bottle as I came across the mats. took a second to get it.
Run
  • 29m 48s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

carried my Marika water bottle, drank about 1/3 of it. also ate about 4 energy chews. no cotton mouth problems this time. I felt I ran really strong, passed 10 people in all. Mostly kept a pace of 8:55, I was carrying a 8:10 pace for a while but those stairs really slowed me down quite a bit.
What would you do differently?:

train stairs more.
Post race
Warm down:

drank the rest of my Gatorade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

nothing really. other than needing to train better.

Event comments:

for a small race put together by all volunteers this was good.

Age Group: 13/17
Overall: 120/132
Performance: Average
Suit: Synergy Adrenaline
Course: triangle around 3 buoys. they had to change the course last minute due to low water levels in the river/channel. so we had to run 0.29 mile back to transition. according to chip timing, this is added to the swim, so I am using my garmin time for my swim since it is more accurate by almost 3 minutes.

Course: out and back. STAIRS!!!! there were like 8 flights of stairs to go up. and I've actually trained quite a bit on stairs, but these sucked because they were the really wide really shallow stairs; it was impossible to take them 2 at a time and "running" up them was a weird little baby steps run. WORE ME OUT! I actually decided to just walk up 2 sets of them.
