Pre-race routine:

up early as the race starts at dawn to avoid traffic. Up at 4:50am, ate breakfast and on the road at 5:25am. No traffic and was on site at 5:50. Had picked up my packet the day before.
Event warmup:

Light run and activation.
Swim
  • 16m 4s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 08s / 100 meters
Comments:

Unlike years before we started in deep water. I sear we swam longer this year.
What would you do differently?:

I liked my swim but was slower than last year. Still swam well.
Transition 1
  • 02m 15s
Comments:

Slower than last year; new shoes harder to put own. New paved parking lot is really nice
Bike
  • 50m 31s
  • 17.8 miles
  • 21.14 mile/hr
Comments:

The course has a bunch of tight turns at bottom of hills; as I get older I appear to get more cautious on some of the turns. I was pleased with the result but it was slower than last year. Nice morning for a ride. Did get caught in traffic towards the end
Transition 2
  • 01m 13s
Comments:

Felt like a good transition but some it was 21 seconds slower than last year. my TA spot was not the best - but it was smooth
Run
  • 25m 3s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 01s  min/km
Comments:

went out fast on the first mile at 8:11, which is mainly downhill/ Goal was a 8:30 pace and completed on a 8:19 pace. 10 seconds faster than last year. Fastest I have ever done the run portion of the race
What would you do differently?:

It was a solid race
Post race
Warm down:

Cold water and a change of clothes; It was really getting hot out there

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not sure - training has bee ok with some typical life challenges. Felt good race day. I raced well with a goal time of 1:35. Went a 1:35:03. Other goal was a top ten in my AG and went 7th.

Event comments:

Jones Racing picked up the race this year; they did a great job and it was well staffed. I have run this race for several years and it was one that I enjoy. The new bike course is a bot of a technical challenge.

Good support from the local neighborhood. Good place to swim. We had to wait for the sun to rise this year; the early start time is a good thing but makes for a long day.
