Age Group Rank = 8/22
Pre-race routine:

Breakfast: coffee & brown rice pudding
Sip electrolytes pre race
Event warmup:

Short calisthenics routine, short yoga session
Swim
  • 08m 9s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

Lined up in the middle of the pack, I think this may have held me back slightly. About 100 yards in, I swam up the back of the person in front of me, and the person behind me swam up my back. Not much room to maneuver around. Right goggle was leaking, but didn't hinder me. Otherwise the swim smelt pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe swim a little to the outside away from the churn.
Transition 1
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

Glad I had a small towel to wipe sand & grass off my feet. I'm loving the tri kit, but I keep feeling like I'm forgetting something in transition.
What would you do differently?:

Trust myself more that I haven't forgotten anything.
Bike
  • 33m 22s
  • 10.47 miles
  • 18.83 mile/hr
Comments:

100 cal in my water bottle with electrolytes, gu pack in my pocket for backup. Didn't finish water bottle, didn't feel like I needed the gu. With the hills I was aiming for 18-19 mph on the flats. I might have been able to push a little harder, but felt like a good hard effort overall. Peddle slipped a couple of times, I think it only really effected the hill at the start.
What would you do differently?:

Look into getting clipless.
Transition 2
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

Got stuck running through the shoot behind a guy going slower than I would have. Probably didn't loose much time though. Figured locking up bikes trying to squeeze past him would have been worse.
Run
  • 28m 25s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Managed to keep my goal pace. Had to keep playing mental games.. "I'll walk after the bridge.. I'll walk after the turn around... I'll walk after the aid station... can't walk if I can see the finish..."
Post race
Event comments:

Fun local (for me) sprint series. Sommer Sports puts in a lot of effort to provide great races and it showes.
