Pre-race routine:

Was in a big rush, had to park 1.5 miles away and got the the transition area 20 minutes before it closed. Had no time to get things set up properly and very little room to set up. When done, it was a good 1/2 mile to the swim start so when I got there, I had less than 10 minutes to prepare. Next time I will get there much earlier; I figured I had plenty of time. Had no idea parking would be so bad.
Event warmup:

No time really, quick stretch of the arms before I hit the water.
Swim
  • 15m 36s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not a great swim for me. Had to really fight to get a line to the first buoy, trying to get around slower swimmers. Felt really winded at the first mark so the rest of the swim was all about getting into a rhythm and swimming efficiently. Had trouble sighting though foggy goggles so I was off my line quite a bit. Surprised I finished as well as I did on this one.
What would you do differently?:

Start more towards the front. I tend to let everyone go so I do not get in their way but it seems I swim faster then the average. If I start at the front I don't have to fight to get around so many people.
Transition 1
  • 05m 37s
Comments:

T1 began with a long uphill run from the beach to the transition zone. This was a really steep hill and I was still pretty tired from the swim so I ended up walking up the hill into the transition zone. When I hit my area I was pretty good at getting out of the swim gear and on to the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing as far as getting on the bike.
Bike
  • 45m 47s
  • 12 miles
  • 15.73 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a rough portion for me. The main problem was that my bike kept skipping gears every time I put any power into my pedals. I could never really get a fast pace going and the climbs were slow. Took the bike to the shop after the race and it ended up being a worn out (stretched) cable. Too bad I didn't notice that earlier, oh well. Secondly, my stomach was pretty upset the entire bike, probably from swallowing too much seawater.
Transition 2
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

Not a bad transition. Took some extra time to get some socks on over sweaty feet though.
Run
  • 28m 53s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt really good here, probably because I could not push it on the bike. My pace was really good for me so I am pleased with this time.
What would you do differently?:

Hard to say, this was a good run for me. Maybe try harder to keep the waves from getting my feet wet!
Post race
Warm down:

Easy walk to get my HR back to resting. Drink well and grab some food that was there at the finish

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lost too much energy on the first leg of the swim just trying ot get a lane and around the slower swimmers. Bike had a mechanical problem so that made the ride much slower then I wanted.

Event comments:

Parking for this sucked. Had no idea that I would have to park so far away from the transition area otherwise I would have left much earlier.
