Swim
Comments: WTF???? This is the second time I had serious problems in this lake. In June I had the same damn thing happen. After about 100 yards, I couldn't catch my breath, couln't get into any smooth stroke pace...nothin. I spent much of my time on my back or flailing. I was so F-ing pissed. This is 400 yards!! That's 8 laps in the pool. Hell, my light days in the pool are 30 laps and I finish those at a 2:00 pace. I followed the same plan for the swim as my last 2 tri in which I swam at a 1:45 pace. Today however, it seemed that every third time I would take a breath, I ended up with a mouth full of water. I really felt so much less bouyant and felt like I was spending so much energy just to stay afloat that it sucked it out of me. I'm wondering if it's the effect that a lake has as opposed to the ocean or the pool. Is one less bouyant in lake water? Whatever, I was F-ing pissed and contemplated taking a DNF even after I got out of the water. What would you do differently?: I would F-ing swim like I normally do godammit! Transition 1
Comments: My T1 time sucked because my mishap in the lake had my HR spiked and it took me what seemed like forever to get it down. What would you do differently?: Have a decent F-ing swim so my HR isn't spiked. Bike
Comments: Now for the good news. This was a PR for any 10 mile ride for me, race or training. I was pleasantly surprised since my HR was a little too high for the first 5 miles and I had to free-wheel for a 10 count a few times just to get the HR down. What would you do differently?: This was a PR...wouldn't do anything different. Transition 2
Comments: A good T2 for me. Even took an extra 20 seconds to suck down a gatorade. What would you do differently?: Nothin. Run
Comments: A freakin AWESOME run for me. I placed 1st in my division and was able to pass a guy that I spotted 2 mins. to in the swim and bike. I clipped at about a 10 min. pace which is great for me. I have been working hard on my running and it paid off today. I was really pleased. What would you do differently?: nothin Post race
Warm down: Water, bagels and the massage table. What limited your ability to perform faster: The goddamn swim. Event comments: My goal was 1:10 and to finish top 3 in my division. Although I did not break 1:10, my bike and run times were faster than what I was hoping for. Very disappointed with the swim, but felt great that I came back and had a great bike and a GREAT run. Even with the bad swim, I only lost about 3 mins from what I would have had if I had swam my normal pace. I think that's amazing that one can train like hell swimming, then have the worst swim possible with more than half of it on your back, yet only spot 3 minutes from what you would normally have posted if you had swam your pace. I'm now convinced that the swim is just something to get through so you can get to the bike and run. Last updated: 2006-10-16 12:00 AM

Got up early at 4am so had plenty of time to get ready and load up the car. Got to the course around 6am, got my chip and set up my transition.
Ran a little bit, just enough to work up a sweat
