Pre-race routine:

I packed my bag the night before. It was a struggle to make it out of bed this morning. It was so warm under the covers and I knew how cold it was going to be. On the way into the city I ate a granola bar and some water.

What is it about the cold and having to pee? Of course once I get to the park I had to pee. Not more than 20 minutes later I have to pee again. I think its something about the cold.
Event warmup:

Picked up my number and my t-shirt XL since I just give them to John now. Took two gels for the run and my nano. Ran a warm up mile before the start.

Comments:

It was freaking cold out. I couldn't feel my toes or my fingers the first 3 miles. This definitely caused me to go out way too hard. I'm usually slower the first few miles, than pick it up towards mile 4. This definitely ruined my rhythm through the race. However, its good that I'm getting my body used to moving faster. With the wind chill, the 22 degrees was really 14 degrees. It was cold.

This was a hard race for me. At around mile 5, I was ready to throw in the towel. The cold had given me a headache and I was just really cold. By mile 6 I realized I could make 7 miles in close to an hour so that gave me a boost. The hills on the second loop hurt. They hurt a lot. My ITB was tight and really acting up. I was soo happy to see the finish. Drank gatorade at the water station every other mile and took 1 gel at mile 8.

I used my F305 during the race and it says I ran 13.23. I think the distance was off. Because when I ran the race in Central Park with Mary the mile marks were dead on. Today every mile mark on my F305 buzzed about a 1/10 before the NYRR mile marker. Anyone experience that or see a distance discrepancy? My goal time was 1:55, but I'll take 1:56. :) I'm very pleased with the time.

Post race
Warm down:

Walked over to the 103rd St school and got my well deserved hot chocolate. Of course...after I jumped on the subway I had too pee soo bad. I'm telling you it has to do with the cold. :( Had a gel and some water to just hold me over till I got home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The cold.

Event comments:

I'm happy with my time. Its not Boston qualifying times yet, but I'm getting closer. :)
