Total Time = 1h 47m 15s
Overall Rank = 291/399
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 61/71
Pre-race routine:

Got up somewhere around 5am, drank a chocolate Ensure and a mini Ciniamon Rasin Bagel
Event warmup:

Cup o' Coffee, talking with Scott, Eric, Dave and Keith.Swam maybe ten yards to see just how warm the water was...
Swim
  • 20m 12s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 41s / 100 meters
Comments:

Slow start, did not want to over heat in the water, and did not want to implode like I did at Latta.
What would you do differently?:

Focus between now and next year needs to be on getting more comfortable in the water. Also, on swimming with a group of @ss who would drowned me for a minute on their time ;)
Transition 1
  • 02m 39s
Comments:

Not bad in T1...felt like a long way from water to transition
What would you do differently?:

Need to try a ride w/out the glasses. Opening the case putting the glasses on and all I felt like slowed me down
Bike
  • 56m 4s
  • 16.8 miles
  • 17.98 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt like my left hamstring was going to explode at the end of the climb to 115. The only negative to the ride was the white truck right before the turn on to Shearers Rd. He just had to mess with the cyclists.
What would you do differently?:

Could and should be faster... the fact that I list Race Pace as Comfortable says I was not going hard enough.
Transition 2
  • 01m 28s
What would you do differently?:

Just a touch faster....
Run
  • 26m 54s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

Did really well on the run...could have been a touch faster if I knew where the finish was this year. It was actually about 50yd closer than I expected and I still had some sprint left in my legs when I pass the line...oh well - lesson learned - locate the finish before the race start.
What would you do differently?:

Locate the finish before the race start, so I would know just when to dig for the sprint.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, walking, wet towel and talking.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training on bike and swim...

Event comments:

Enjoyed it and looking forward to do it again next year (with a better time)

Course: Nice, but then I knew it.. Alice thinks that is a lame course description...let's see... A scenic loop ride of Davidson, NC and it’s outlying farms area. A few hills will challenge the racers, but they are not beyond the average racer. (is that better Ms. Love2Tri...)

Age Group: 55/71
Overall: 248/399
Performance: Good
Course: Nice... more shade than I expected, less hills than I expected. (Again, the critical feedback from my editor and manager Ms. Love2Tri.) A great run through the neighborhoods of Davidson! There was shade provided from a combination of the low early morning sun and young trees. The numerous water stations allowed for me to keep cooler than I normally do on my training runs. Which makes me think the pace may really have to do with training in 95+ degree temps, then running in 85degrees. It really was a fun run… but then maybe I did not go hard enough on the bike (hmmm….)
