Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:30, pb/j toast. Got going to race site at 6:15, in TA at 6:30. Slept at friend's house and actually slept pretty well. Didn't get the end spot for transition, but was relatively happy with being able to find my row/rack my stuff.

Event warmup:

Took bike out for a quick 2-3 mile bike, ran through gears, sailed down the hill with a grin on my face.
Swim
  • 14m 51s
  • 587 yards
  • 02m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

Horrible swim. Simply horrid. The weather was perfect, conditions were great, and I just couldn't get it together.
What would you do differently?:

Swim in a straight line? Do a more thorough sighting more often or move from sighting every 8 strokes to every 5-6, as I did on the way in, which seemed to help.

Transition 1
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

Good transition. I need to learn a flying mount, but I feel quite speedy in T1. I'd easily trade 15 seconds for a wetsuit, though...
What would you do differently?:

Nada
Bike

Comments:

Good bike. Had a lot of fun riding with 2 other girls in my age group... must have been the 3rd and 4th place finishers, based on our respective times.

I had a little bit of trouble taking in my nutrition. I had trouble swallowing my first shot blok and ended up coughing up some of it... then I had trouble with my gel because of it, too. Only ate half my gel and was fine with that. Don't need much nutrition on a sprint, anyway.
What would you do differently?:

Swallow better? Water first?
Transition 2

Comments:

Good transition
Run
  • 24m 29s
  • 2.5 miles
  • 09m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Ugh. I need to do more bricks, obviously, but it was also obvious I hadn't run much, at all, in the last 3 weeks. And then, 400 yards out, I rolled an ankle again. I did this in my last race, too, but at least that time I rolled it off the side of the road, so it sort of made sense. This time I just rolled it ON the road. I mean, who does that? It seems to happen when I id somebody to chase and am looking too far down the road...

So anyway, I yelled at myself for a minute, hop-ran for 100 yards, and then somebody in my age group passed me and I wasn't going to let that happen. So I sucked it up and ran it in, passing her in the stretch. Felt good at the time, but lousy today. But like I said, I'd still do it!
What would you do differently?:

Focus on my own freaking race. You can chase somebody, but do it with your feet, not your eyes.
