Pre-race routine:

Transition area set up, wandered around for the remaining few hours. I didn't start in the pool until 1:49pm and I thought that the T area would have been more hectic earlier than it was. I ended up stretching, doing a brief bike ride (to check out a new tire installed this morning), and eating a snack around 11am.
Event warmup:

Brief bike ride and a few laps in the warm-up lane.
Swim
  • 08m 59s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

I ended up catching the girl in front of me (she had started 1.5 minutes prior). Because of this, I had to keep waiting for her to get out ahead of where I needed to be; the officials at the pool kept holding me up. Honestly, it sure didn't feel like 500. I didn't think that I swam 500yds but the officials say I did...
Transition 1
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

It would have been nice if there wasn't so much dirt/sand/rocks all over the parking lot.
Bike
  • 40m 31s
  • 12 miles
  • 17.77 mile/hr
Comments:

Shitty road surface.

Head wind on the way out made for a SLOW ride out. Top speed on the way back, though, was close to 30mph!
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

Just didn't have a good T2. Of course, there was still dirt/rocks/sand all over my feet and I just can't run without socks, so I wiped the soles of my feet off a little before putting my socks on.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more?
Run
  • 29m 37s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

Probably should have done a brick before the race! I was hurting about halfway through and had to walk a few times. Still ended up running < 10 minute miles... There were no mile markers either!
What would you do differently?:

Doing a few bricks prior to race day probably would have helped!
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of tri-specific training!

Event comments:

A good race in a small town attended by quite a few people, even a few IM finishers.

This was my time; race officials added a minute to the swim time to adjust for the distance needed to run to the T area. Fastest 500 I think I've ever done!
