Pre-race routine:

Wake up, get dressed, get in the truck, go to race. Eat a cliff bar, and set up transition area.
Event warmup:

To warm up there was about a mile bike ride from the parking lot to the transition area. After setting everything up, I went for a quick swim and found that I can't steer without looking very well. That's alwasy good to know before you're trying to swim for time. Oh yeah, I also stretched.
Swim
  • 14m 34s
  • 600 yards
  • 02m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was in a clean pond. Can't complain too much about the contition of the water. It was warm, clean, wave-less. Great conditions. I felt this was my roughest event.
What would you do differently?:

I would have liked to have more swimming done before the tri. Part of the problem was the move to San Antonio and not being able to find a lap pool that didn't cost an arm and a leg until about a week and a half before the race.
Transition 1
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

I need to get this faster. There have got to be some tricks that I just don't know yet or I just need more practice at it.
What would you do differently?:

GO FASTER!!!!
Bike
  • 28m 58s
  • 11 miles
  • 22.78 mile/hr
Comments:

I thought this was pretty good. The entire bike portion was on a pretty flat course. A couple really small hills but that was it. The only wet parts were where the sprinkler system was turned on before the race. This was also the first time I've done a USAT sanctioned event. I got yelled at for being too close. I thought I was fine but apparently I was wrong.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster and not get yelled at.
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

I'm pretty pleased with this transition. It's a lot easier to take off a helmet, change shoes, and drink some water than it is to try to get dressed for the bike.
Run
  • 23m 58s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Pretty good pace I think for this triathlon. A few places felt really tough, but that eventually passed and I was able to speed up again.
What would you do differently?:

Try to run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, drank water, ate some fruit, and then got a massage.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I did a Biathlon the day before. It didn't feel like that had any sort of noticable affect on my tri. It may have caused me to move a little slower, but I didn't notice.

Event comments:

I thought this was a good triathlon. I was shooting for 1:15:00, and finished 3 minutes under that. If anything I would like to do my next triathlon with someone I know, or have someone present as a spectator. Driving to Houston, running the triathlon and then coming back alone kinda sucked.
