Swim
  • 20m 38s
  • 1094 yards
  • 01m 53s / 100 yards
Comments:

was very comfortable; not pushing real hard - because I had so little sleep, I wasn't sure how I'd do over the distance, so held back a little. Felt like I could have kept going for a while. Breaking 2 min/100 yd pace was very good for me.
Was happy to see Kai and Derek at the swim exit!
What would you do differently?:

Swim harder
Transition 1
  • 04m 11s
Comments:

Didn't push this one at all - it was a long way from the swim exit to my bike. Sunglass lens fell out while I was drying it off - had to put it back on; put my Garmin watch on during this time. Wanted to stay relaxed - but was maybe too much so :)
What would you do differently?:

Hustle!! and sign up for VIP to get a good transition spot
Bike
  • 1h 02m 9s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 18.00 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

ride faster
Transition 2
  • 02m 16s
Comments:

Tried taking my feet out of my shoes before dismounting, and it worked! Overall, this was my "strongest" ranking of the day (334/831).
Run
  • 1h 03m 27s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

I'm just slow. I stopped to use the porta potty at the run start after thinking about it all thru T2. Since I was most concerned about finishing the run in decent shape, I figured I'd rather not think about peeing for the next hour - esp with no ipod. I actually felt pretty good, especially since I wasn't able to run at all for over a week, and paced myself well. My broken pinkie toe didn't bother me as I was afraid it might, even tho my right foot was numb for about the first mile off the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on picking up the pace - even by 30 sec/mile.
And DON'T break my toe the week before the race!!
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Broken toe, unfamiliarity with combined race distance and effect on stamina, slow legs

Event comments:

Overall I'm very happy! I wanted to beat 2:40 and thought I might be able to make 2:30, so coming in at 2:32:41 was great, especially since I took my time in transitions and made a pit stop. I know I can improve at this!

Course: Nice, rolling course. Canon hill isn't nearly as bad as Torrey Pines, and rolling hills to Cabrillo kept it interesting. Having the long downhill on the way back was great! I rode comfortably hard, but probably need to learn to push more. I'm just afraid of running out of gas at the end.
