Pre-race routine:

Set up Transition area.
Event warmup:

Swam about 5 mins before it was time to start.
Swim
  • 42m 8s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 48s / 100 meters
Comments:

Quite disappointed with swim today. I choked at the beginning cuz I swallowed some of the dirty water. Instead of a punch to the back of the head, I got an elbow to the temple. Time includes a long run up the hill to T1.
What would you do differently?:

Swim a lot more in training. Stick with the pack to be able to draft more. Not stop as much when sighting.
Transition 1
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

whatever. uneventful and same as always.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe I'll try the whole "shoes clipped to the bike before I'm in them" thing next year.
Bike
  • 1h 39m 51s
  • 40 kms
  • 24.04 km/hr
Comments:

Top speed 61 kph.
Hills are hard.
My hips really hurt by the end of the bike. I don't think I could have biked much further.
I think this was my first time back on the road bike since the 1/2 Ironman two weeks prior.
What would you do differently?:

Bike more. Bike more hills. Spend more time in the saddle.
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Run
  • 1h 07m 58s
  • 10 kms
  • 06m 48s  min/km
Comments:

Long run. Feeling pretty bad when I got off the bike, but I was feeling pretty good by the turn around of the run. A little aggravating to always hear that "the Last runner is on her way!" Oh well, better speed next time! Felt really bloated by the end, but I was really glad that Shaun told me to take two drinks at each aid station, or I'm not sure what I would have done. Common sense, I know, but sometimes people are not 100% rational on the race course?
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Maybe do more run training? hmmm... seems to be a theme here...
Post race
Warm down:

walked slowly to the car, drinking water and pouring it on my head.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of hills around home. Not putting in as much training as I intended to.

Event comments:

Despite not being slowest overall in any of the three separate events, I managed to come in dead last out of all the Olympic distance athletes. A little disappointed by my performance today, but I didn't expect much better actually. I knew the course was going to be hard as it had been my toughest event last year too.

I am going to have to train my ass off for IMC 2008!
