Total Time = 2h 22m 19s
Overall Rank = 573/831
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 94/114
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition zone, try and eat something but with race jitters nothing tasted good.
Swim
  • 17m 8s
  • 1094 yards
  • 01m 33s / 100 yards
Comments:

Since I only breath to the left and all the buoys were on my right, I was all over the course. Many times I had to stop and see that I was heading way off course. Once I got more in the pack I was able to keep a straight line.
What would you do differently?:

Start more to the right and keep more swimmers around me.
Transition 1
  • 02m 50s
Comments:

Was fortunate that my spot was very close to the swim in gate. Took some extra time to get socks on.
What would you do differently?:

Practice
Bike
  • 58m 42s
  • 18.64 miles
  • 19.05 mile/hr
Comments:

For some reason I thought the bike leg was longer, maybe 25 miles. Also I was so pre-occupied with having to do the run afterwards that I did not go too hard. Obviously from my rank I am just not a fast cyclist yet. Also, the course length was more like 15 miles.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder
Transition 2
  • 02m 6s
Comments:

Big mistake. Ran through transition in socks that became soaked with all the water from the swimmers. Had to ditch the socks for the run.
Run
  • 1h 01m 33s
  • 6.21 kms
  • 09m 55s  min/km
Comments:

Too many fast runners (haha)! This is actually a good time for me, only about 3.5 minutes off my 10k PR and I did this after the swim and bike). I was really worried about doing this run after the swim and bike. I am really happy with how comfortable I was on this run, in fact I did not start to tire until about mile 5, which is later then usual.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to get faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk and drink

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Pre-occupied with the run and thinking the bike leg was going to be longer

Event comments:

I like the San Diego series triathlons because they are well organized and relatively cheap compared to the other races. This is only my second olympic distance race and this went way better then the other one. My goals for the race were 1)- just finish (did that); 2)- complete the run without having to walk (did that); 3)- finish strong (was able to pick up the pace at the end)
